Harriet Naomi Namusoke

Founder

What’s your background?

I have over 30 years of experience in early years and primary education, working in both Uganda and the UK. My passion for teaching grew even stronger when I completed a diploma in pre-school learning, which deepened my understanding of creative, child-centred approaches to education. This training shaped my belief that children learn best when they are encouraged to explore, imagine, and express themselves.
Throughout my career, I have worked in crèches, playgroups, Sunday schools, and a range of community projects focused on children’s wellbeing and education. I have always been committed to nurturing the whole child—supporting not only their academic development but also their creativity, confidence, and emotional growth. Much of my work has involved empowering children, teachers, parents, and families, particularly through initiatives such as the Creativity Centre, to help create positive and supportive learning environments.

I bring extensive professional experience in children’s education, with a strong commitment to helping every child reach their full potential. Throughout my career, I have worked to ensure that children learn in caring, nurturing, and safe environments where they feel valued and supported. Safeguarding and wellbeing have always been at the heart of my work, alongside ensuring that children have access to the resources and opportunities they need to thrive.
As a founder, I also contribute strategic leadership and community engagement skills. I actively reach out to individuals and organisations across different sectors to build partnerships, raise awareness, and mobilise support for the charity’s vision. My experience enables me to connect people, ideas, and resources in meaningful ways to strengthen BCreativity’s impact and ensure it continues to make a positive difference in the lives of children and families.

For over 30 years I have worked with children, including many who struggled to fit into traditional school systems. Through my experience, I saw first-hand how important creativity is to a child’s learning, confidence, and overall wellbeing. This inspired me to create a place where children could grow, explore, and express themselves freely. BCreativity was founded from this passion and from my belief that, given the right opportunities, every child and young person can develop and excel.
As my involvement grew, I discovered that the impact went far beyond the children themselves. I have had the privilege of meeting people from all walks of life and seeing the powerful results of sharing skills, knowledge, and experiences. Being part of BCreativity has reminded me that everyone has a talent and the potential to make a valuable contribution. That belief continues to drive my commitment to the charity and its vision.

BCreativity has become a natural part of who I am. It shapes the way I think, the way I work and the way I relate to others. Wherever I go, I find myself noticing ideas and opportunities and imagining practical ways they can support our aims and objectives.
As a teacher, BCreativity has enriched both my classroom practice and my relationships with colleagues. Sharing our vision and projects often brings positive feedback, which inspires me and strengthens my confidence as an educator. It has also brought my family closer together, as we regularly share ideas, discuss challenges and find creative solutions as a team.
BCreativity gives me a deep sense of purpose. Nothing is more rewarding than hearing that a child who once struggled to access education is now being supported, or receiving a message of thanks from a teacher we have trained. These moments remind me why this work matters.
In many ways, my life reflects the heart of BCreativity – seeing lives transformed while my own life is continually enriched and transformed as well.

What’s your background?
I’ve worked in business development and partnership strategy for over 18 years, with the past seven specialising in finance and technology. My career has centred on building strong ecosystems, driving strategic growth and developing long-term, high-value relationships across corporate sectors.

Professionally, I bring deep strategic capability, strong communication and disciplined execution to BCreativity’s mission. I support the organisation through growth planning, partnership development and corporate engagement. Throughout my career, I’ve excelled at building meaningful, high-value relationships and driving initiatives that deliver measurable, sustainable impact skills that transfer directly into strengthening BCreativity’s long-term vision.

My connection to BCreativity began two years ago when my personal journey led me back to my Christian faith. It was through church that I met my dear friend Harriet and our friendship grounded in shared belief reshaped my understanding of service and how it can transcend both distance and circumstance. When I discovered what Harriet and John had quietly built over the past 15 years with so little external support I was deeply moved and knew immediately that I wanted to contribute my skills, time and heart to advancing their mission.

My “BCreativity” is fueled by my lifelong passion for movement and imagination. I find grounding and joy in training at the gym and in walking or hiking through the countryside.

My creativity sparks most vividly when I read, whether it’s a compelling autobiography, gripping historical fiction, or ancient philosophical teachings. I love the feeling of being transported to another space and time. The same is true when I listen to my vinyl record collection, an eclectic music library I have my father to thank for.

Music and storytelling have always expanded my sense of the world and it is a joy and privilege to be able to share that same sense of discovery and possibility with children in Uganda, helping to enrich their learning and enhance their experience of life.

What’s your background?

I bring over 40 years of experience in UK public service supporting people of all ages abilities and circumstances. My career began in Inner London social services where I developed a strong foundation in needs assessment problem solving and delivering effective community support. I then went on to serve as Chief Officer of Age UK in Yorkshire for 22 years providing strategic leadership building partnerships and overseeing services that improved the lives of vulnerable individuals across the region. My extensive experience in governance service delivery and community development aligns closely with BCreativity’s mission to remove barriers and empower communities and I am proud to contribute as an advisor in shaping impactful and sustainable programmes.

The experience that I bring from my long career, studies, qualifications and learning will enable me to support the BCreativity team to identify future strategies which will address the issues and needs of the children within the project. I believe that grass roots problems do not just need a “quick fix”. I believe I can assist in the development of the project through supporting the team to identify appropriate funding to ensure a secure future for the children involved, through the BCreativity innovative educational philosophy.

Following my retirement from the role of Chief Executive of Age UK York after 22 years, I continued as a volunteer on other projects within the city for the benefit of older people. When my daughter introduced me to Harriet and John, and I discovered the work that was being undertaken through BCreativity, immediately I understood the importance of supporting these young people in Uganda through innovative, practical and appropriate education. I was very fortunate to visit the flagship schools in Uganda with my grandson. I was able to see where I could help, both on a practical level and working with others to grow and develop the projects to make a real impact, and in time, to extend the BCreativity project across the country.

During my career in York I undertook a wide range of roles across local charity service providers spanning both advocacy and frontline support. From championing the rights of older people at a policy level to ensuring that thousands of isolated individuals had access to food, financial support, heating and safe housing my work has always focused on dignity and care.

Equality of opportunity has underpinned my work for more than 40 years and I firmly believe that every child deserves access to education and the chance to reach their full potential. BCreativity represents a powerful way for this vision to become a reality.
