Kasamu Church of Uganda Primary School
Kasamu Church of Uganda Primary School was established in 1930 by the then lay leader of Kasamu Church of Uganda, Astancio Sserwanga.
The school has 12 members of staff and approximately 120 pupils. Most parents are unemployed and live below the poverty line, making it very challenging to run the school effectively. The school has no running water, and pupils miss valuable learning time fetching water from a source located about one kilometer away. The school faces numerous challenges, including food insecurity, lack of water on the premises, and financial hardships. Additionally, girls miss a significant portion of their learning due to inadequate resources to support them during their menstrual cycle. Recently, Creativity has supported the school by constructing a kitchen, renovating and building bathrooms, creating a storage facility for feminine hygiene products, and supplying sanitary pads to support girls’ education and wellbeing.
Description of improvements
Recently, BCreativity has significantly strengthened the school’s learning environment by investing in essential infrastructure that directly supports pupils’ health, dignity, and academic success. The construction of a new kitchen has enabled the safe preparation of meals, improving hygiene standards and ensuring children receive nutritious food in a clean and organised setting. Access to regular meals not only enhances concentration in class but also increases school attendance, particularly for learners from vulnerable households.
In addition, the renovation and construction of bathrooms have created safer, more hygienic sanitation facilities for both boys and girls. Recognising the specific challenges faced by adolescent girls, BCreativity also established a secure storage facility for feminine hygiene products and continues to supply sanitary pads. This practical support helps reduce absenteeism linked to menstruation, restores confidence and dignity, and ensures that girls can fully participate in their education without interruption. Through these targeted improvements, BCreativity is fostering a supportive, inclusive environment where every child has the opportunity to thrive.
