How Our Journey Began

The BCreativity Train: A journey powered by imagination, exploration and opportunity.

Harriet’s life and work have always been shaped by a deep love for children, education and the belief that every child deserves the chance to thrive. Growing up in Uganda and later training and teaching in the UK gave her a unique perspective on both the challenges and the possibilities within both education systems.

With over 30 years of experience across early years and primary education, Harriet has worked in crèches, playgroups, Sunday schools, community projects, and as a classroom teacher, always guided by a child-centred approach that nurtures creativity, confidence and emotional wellbeing alongside academic learning. She was inspired by the way children learn through creativity. She discovered that when creativity is properly encouraged, it deepens understanding and supports truly child- centred learning. This approach nurtures confident, curious and well-rounded children.

Her passion for creative education was strengthened through specialist training in pre-school learning, where she saw first-hand how play, imagination and exploration unlock a child’s potential. Yet it was her lived experience in Uganda, witnessing overcrowded classrooms, limited resources and children struggling to engage in rigid learning environments that truly ignited her calling.

Harriet began using her own savings to send learning materials back home, gathering books, toys and resources from the UK and personally delivering them to schools. What started as one woman’s determination soon became a movement, as friends, colleagues and communities joined her in supporting children who had so little.

Alongside her husband John, whose unwavering support and partnership have been central to the journey, shares a deep passion for helping children reach their full potential. He is committed to creating inclusive and responsive learning environments that recognise and support the diverse needs of every child. John works to identify and implement effective strategies for children who may struggle within traditional systems, as well as those who thrive through alternative approaches. By embracing diverse methods including kinesthetic, creative and experimental learning, he ensures that children are supported in ways that build confidence, unlock potential and nurtures their individual strengths.

Harriet founded BCreativity Centre in Uganda a safe, joyful space where children could learn through play, expression, and curiosity. Together, for the past 15 byears they have rescued struggling schools, trained teachers, built learning environments and created opportunities for children who had once been overlooked to rediscover their love for learning. What began as a simple idea quickly grew beyond expectations.
Harriet’s work has always extended beyond the classroom. She empowers teachers, parents and communities, believing that lasting change happens when people are equipped with skills, confidence and most importantly of all – hope. The centre has brought people together through team work, learning and shared purpose.

As a founder and leader, Harriet brings both vision and action, building partnerships, mobilising resources and connecting people across cultures to serve a shared purpose and of course, safeguarding, wellbeing, and dignity sit at the heart of everything she does, ensuring children are not only educated but truly cared for.

For Harriet, BCreativity is far more than a charity, it is a reflection of her faith, her family, and her life’s calling. It shapes how she teaches, how she leads, and how she sees the world, always searching for ways to transform challenges into opportunities.

Nothing brings Harriet greater joy than hearing a child laugh as they learn, watching confidence bloom where there was once fear, or receiving a message from a teacher whose classroom has been transformed. These moments remind her and all who work alongside her that creativity truly changes lives.

In every sense, Harriet’s journey mirrors the heart of BCreativity: lives being uplifted and transformed, while her own life continues to be enriched by the power of faith, community and hope.

Short History

Growing Beyond Our Walls

What began as a single spark of creativity has grown into a community-driven mission touching the lives of children, families and schools.

As Basena Agro Creativity Centre flourished, so did its reputation.Over time, we were approached to support a school that was on the brink of closure due to financial and administrative challenges.

BCreativity stepped in,— bringing creativity-led learning, structured support, and renewed hope into the school.

This moment marked a turning point in our journey; BCreativity expanded from a single centre to a wider movement dedicated to strengthening community schools, empowering teachers, and transforming education across Uganda.
